1) Incorrect: He was aiming a gun against me.

Correct: He was aiming a gun at me.

Explanation: Something is aimed at someone and not against someone.


2) Incorrect: I will phone you again in 5 minutes.

Correct: I will phone you back in 5 minutes.

Explanation: If you telephone someone after he/she has telephoned you, you call/ring/phone them back.


3) Incorrect: Some foreigner students feel home sick.

Correct: Some foreign students feel home sick.

Explanation: Foreigner is a noun and refers to a person. “I am a foreigner in India, having just arrived from the US.”


4) Incorrect: Archaeological treasures should be kept in the original country.

Correct: Archaeological treasures should be kept in country of origin.

Explanation: Country of origin is the country where something was made or discovered.


5) Incorrect: I am enclosing a cheque of Rs. 10,000.

Correct: I am enclosing a cheque for Rs. 10,000.

Explanation: Cheque is always for an amount of money.


6) Incorrect: The purpose of this ceremony is to honour the dead people.

Correct: The purpose of this ceremony is to honour the dead.

Explanation: ‘Dead’ in this context already means dead people.


7) Incorrect: The sweater is yellow-coloured and is made of wool.

Correct: The sweater is yellow and is made of wool.

Explanation: While describing colour of something, we can just say …… is green or white…like “Her new dress is blue with yellow buttons”.


8) Incorrect: According to me, we should spend more money on education.

Correct: In my opinion, we should spend more money on education.

Explanation: To introduce your opinion, use in my/our opinion. The term ‘according to’ is used in instances such as ‘According to the author……..’.


9) Incorrect: Nobody lives forever.

Correct: Nobody lives for ever.

Explanation: Forever = all the time, continually. For ever = for always.


10) Incorrect: After the run, I had an ache in my legs.

Correct: After the run, my legs were aching.

Explanation: ‘Ache’ is usually used either as a verb or in compound form with tooth, ear, head, stomach, back. Example “I did some weight training on Monday and my shoulders have been aching ever since.


The Swedish newspaper was recently asked it to delete the reference made by President Pranab Mukherjee to the Bofors scam in an interview to it, as a claim protested by the Indian Government on 27 May 2015. India has expressed disappointment over the disrespect shown to the President, the newspaper has defended its right to publish what was said during the interview.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar was crowned as the new Maharaja of of Mysuru (Mysore) royal family. He is the 23-year old grandson of Princess Gayathri Devi, who was the eldest daughter of the last Maharaja of Mysore, Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar. The coronation was held at Mysuru’s famous Amba Vilas Palace, which was decked up for the occasion.

Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan stood against Blatter in this election. It is worth mentioning that FIFA is going through a major controversy regarding corruption in the organisation with two FIFA vice presidents and a recently elected FIFA executive committee member still in custody.
